Night in Geneva

Goodbye Switzerland, hello France ! Col de L’Avernnaz (1234m) will be our first pass followed by the difficult ascent up the Col de Colombiére (1613m). The steepest section is 10.2%, but the good news is that it marks the end of the day.

Pro: 95km with 2300m+

Inferno: 120km with 3300m+ (Col de la Ramaz 1565m with an amazing view on the Mont Blanc)

Night in La Clusaz

A relaxed start for day 2, with Col des Aravis (1486m) at an average ascent of 6%. Then direction Col des Saisies (1650m), with hairpin bends and some stunning scenery over Mt Blanc. The final big challenge for the day is Cormet de Roselend (1968m) – this beautiful Alpine lake makes the climb worthwhile. A short van transfer is planned to avoid the last climb to the hotel.

Pro: 90km with 2500m+

Inferno: 120km with 3800m+

Night Val d’Isère

Today you’ll face the Col de L’Iseran (2764m), the highest paved pass in the Alps that first appeared in the Tour de France back in 1938. Stop at the top to enjoy a coffee and take in the Alpine panorama before the 70km descent ! One last climb awaits you with  the Col du Télégraphe, gateway to the mighty Galibier. But first a night’s rest in Valloire!

Pro: 110km with 2500m+

Inferno: 125km with 3110m+ (Col du Mont Cenis 2083m)

Night in Valloire

Let’s kick the day off by tackling the most legendary col of the Tour de France : the  Galibier. It’s a good thing that you already cycled up the Telegraph yesterday as this will be a long day.(2642m).

A long descent will take you to  Briançon and then you will tackle the epic Col de Izoard which has also featured many times in the Tour. On the descent you will pass the landmark of the Mont Dauphin citadel which marks the entrance into the Queyras region.  The day’s final challenge is first half of the equally challenging Col de Vars (2108m) before checking in to your hotel.

Pro : 110km with 2670m+

Inferno : 115km with 3640m+ (Col de l’Izoard 2362m)

Night in Vars

Leaving the hotel, your warm up will be the last few km of the Col de Vars. Following a beautiful descent to Jaussier, it’s time to conquer the highest paved road in Europe: the Cime de la Bonette (2802m). That’s one tough 20km climb! At the top of the Bonnette you almost feel you are in the South of France. A wild descent through the Mercantour National Park will take us all the way to our quaint hotel for the night.

Pro: 80km with 2380m+

Inferno: 85km with 2500m+

Night in small mountain village

This morning, we head for the  Col Saint Martin (1500m) in the Provence-Alps, where you’ll notice a change in scenery. You may even start to feel a seaside breeze ! The final climb of this Alpine week will be up Col de Porte (1057m), with the last very long 50 km descent taking you all the way down to the sea and the stylish Promenade des Anglais in Nice!

Pro: 130km with 2630m+

Inferno: 160km with 3100m+ (4600m-) (Ascent Col de Turini 1604m and Col de Braus 639m)
